The Forest begins with the protagonist being caught in a plane crash. The plane crashes and lands on a deserted island, leaving only the central character and their child to survive. The protagonist awakens to find the child being kidnapped by strange creatures. The player must take control of the last survivor to save their own life and reach the child. The player can navigate a vast game world. Various useful resources are found throughout. At the start, the player will acquire an axe and other items. Using these tools, they will need to harvest wood, stone, and food. The interface displays health, energy, water, and food. To consume water, it must be purified or a special mine must be found. Food is obtained from wild animals or plants. Numerous resources allow you to build fences, dams, and small and medium-sized houses. Dwellings can be built not only on the ground but also in tall trees. This feature will make it easier to defend yourself from enemies, as they have difficulty climbing trees. The island is inhabited by tribes of creatures and monsters that kill people and the local fauna. They are extremely aggressive and cruel. You will need to use your starting weapons and craft new ones to defend yourself from them.
